You know that time of year when excitement overpowers reasoning ? The long-awaited season where brightly-colored signs announcing 50-60 and even 70% rebates line the walls of shopping centers ?

It’s discount season!

If you’re like me, you’ve often purchased shoes that turned out to be the wrong size, just because the prices were so low that you couldn’t think straight.

Well ladies, I have the solution to your problem ! After reading this article, I promise you that you’ll be able to make your shoes shrink or grow by almost a full size to fit your foot. You won’t regret having made those impulsive purchases anymore!

First, how to make a shoe smaller :

Wet the part of the shoe that you want to reduce.

You can either dry the shoes in the sun or with a hair dryer. If you choose the second option, here’s a tip :

Hold the dryer about six inches away from the shoe and set it to the lowest temperature. Otherwise, you might damage the shoe.

You definitely don’t want to put your shoes in the clothes dryer ; they’ll be ruined.

If your shoes are made of real leather or suede, you might see some small cracks appear. Don’t panic ; the heat is just drying out the material. Simply apply a protective product after the process is done, and they’ll be as good as new!

Here is an example of a product available at Yellow that can revitalize your shoes after you’re finished shrinking them to your size :

That’s it!

Second, how to make a pair of shoes bigger :

Fill a « ziploc » style plastic bag with water. Remove as much air as possible.

Place the bag in the area that you’d like to expand.

Place the shoe and bag in the freezer until everything is completely frozen (this should take about 2 hours).

There you have it!

The first method works for every kind of shoe except those made of real leather. For leather shoes, all you have to do is place a thick material in the area of the shoe you’d like to expand, such as a wool sock or a towel, and place your hair dryer on the material for a maximum of 20 to 30 seconds.

This technique will help soften the leather without damaging it, so that you can then insert your foot into the shoe to expand it to the desired size.

Just like the shrinking technique, the heat might have the effect of drying the shoes. Simply apply a revitalizing product to fix that up !
