It’s January and getting in shape is at the top of everyone’s New Year’s resolutions list. Here are 4 super easy exercises to do in the comfort of your own home to jump start (or maintain) your goals.
WEIGHTED SQUAT
Do 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps, rest for 60 seconds between sets.
Grab a dumbbell or kettlebell with both hands and hold it at arm’s length in front of hips. Bend at hips and knees to lower the weight to the floor. Without allowing lower back to round, pull torso back and up, thrust hips forward, and stand up with the kettlebell or dumbbell. Squeeze glutes as you perform the movement.
THE LUNGE
Do 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps on each side, resting 60 seconds between sets.
Stand in a staggered stance with front foot on a box or step. Your feet should be 2 to 3 feet apart, front knee slightly bent. Slowly lower your body as far as you can. Pause, then push back up to the starting position as quickly as you can. Complete all reps on one side, then do the same number with your other foot forward.

THE PLANK
Do 3 sets holding the position from 30 to 45 seconds, rest of 60 seconds between each set.
Get into the plank position (as pictured). Your forearms and your toes touching the floor. Keep your torso straight and rigid. Your body should form a straight line completely, ears to toes. Your back should not be bent or arched.
THE BICYCLE
Do 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps, resting 60 seconds between sets.
Lie on your back with bent knees and feet on floor. Press lower back into floor. Cup hands lightly over ears. Lift left foot off the floor until left knee points toward ceiling. Extend right leg, lifting it slightly off floor. Exhale slowly, curl torso upward, and touch right elbow to left knee. Repeat on right side, touching left elbow to right knee.
